If you are eligible for cashback, you will see a banner in the app and a gift icon when sending money to the eligible recipient.
“Once selected, you can send money to your registered WhatsApp contacts and get a cashback of Rs 11 per successful transaction,” the company confirmed.
Google and Paytm also offer similar cashback to their users. Everyone’s goal is to create more engagement and retention growth in the app.
On the other hand, WhatsApp has stated that this WhatsApp Cashback offer does not apply to any QR code payments, payments made on collect requests or payments made with the customer’s UPI.
Manesh Mahatma, Director-Payments, WhatsApp India, said, “We believe that UPI has the potential to have a greater impact on the country – especially in rural areas where digital and financial inclusion can significantly improve people’s lives.”
In November last year, NPCI increased the user cap for WhatsApp’s payment service from the current 20 million to 40 million users. NPCI has periodically approved WhatsApp, so competition for digital payments in the country does not stop.
